The Eagletrons, a robotics team at Seymour High School (SHS), have now completed the robot they will take to the Smoky Mountain Regional of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), to be held in Knoxville March 28-30.
The annual Sevier County Science Fair was held Thursday in the Pigeon Forge Middle School gym, where 191 third- to 12th-grade students set up their diverse poster boards for 19 judges to critique.
Instead of attending another normal school day, Seymour Intermediate School students in Vicky Rooney's and Heather Daniel's fourth-grade classes got to spend Tuesday learning about the environment and the cultural heritage of the mountains during a trip to the Eugene W. Huskey Environmental Center.
In 2006, there were around 300 Hispanic students in the Sevier County School System whose first language was Spanish. By 2012, that number had doubled.

SEVIERVILLE — For Sevier County High School's Lisa Stone, teaching is just one part of her job.
Long-time educator Greg Clark has been named principal of Northview Academy, which will open in the fall of 2013, and he said he's excited about the start of the new school year.
"It's a unique opportunity to open up a new school, and I'm looking forward to it," Clark said. "I've got a lot to do to mesh the faculty and students together, but I'm excited about the next school year to start."
