Man stabbed in attempted burglary
A local man was in stable condition Tuesday afternoon after a burglar allegedly stabbed him inside his home Monday night.
Toby Norton, 33, was able to identify the man police arrested driving his car Monday before being airlifted to The University of Tennessee Medical Center and taken into surgery.
The man arrested in the break-in, 27-year-old Zachary Gale Rattler, of Cherokee, N.C., is now facing charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated burglary, possession of a prohibited weapon and theft. He is being held at the Sevier County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bond.
Norton called 911 before the burglar attacked him, according to police reports, and police officers responding to the call caught Rattler fleeing the scene in Norton’s car, Chief Jack Baldwin said. He was arrested without further incident.
According to police reports, Rattler had a bloody knife in his lap when he was caught in Norton’s car. Norton also identified Rattler as his attacker at the scene.
